Care

Notes on wet networks, dry networks, and what moves between them.

A wet network is one in which the nodes learn by living — through consequence, embodiment, and the slow accumulation of experience. A dry network is one in which the nodes learn by computing — through signals, optimisation, and structural feedback. Both are real. Neither is sufficient.

These pages are about what happens when they meet — and about what a wet network loses when its own invisible layer is stripped out by the things it can measure.

They are meant to be read in order, but they do not depend on each other. Each one is an interior. The meaning lives in the arrangement.

A note on the terms: Care uses "wet" and "dry" deliberately. They are not synonyms for "human" and "machine" — those words carry assumptions about species and rivalry that the argument is trying to avoid. Wet and dry are modes of learning: one pays for knowledge in consequence, the other in computation. Any node can be either. What matters is which mode is running.
